Food, Fuel Price & Inflation is Rising

Food, Fuel Price & Inflation is Rising with Rapid Human Depletion of Resources worldwide. Global food prices could rise further and keep rising over the longer term as supplies are unlikely to match increased demand, as per a recent European Central Bank report. Other factors like protectionist trade policies, speculation and the fall of the US Dollar were also boosting food prices.

People in many countries are protesting against their loss of purchasing power as the price of basic foodstuffs like rice, wheat, bread, milk and vegetables increase. Hikes in food prices have already triggered rioting in some Asian countries. Increase in food and oil price is bound to push inflation to high levels, and the outlook for consumer and wholesale prices will become a big concern.

Inflation data in India is showing another big rise in the cost of living. The wholesale rate of inflation leapt to an annual pace of 8.24%, the fastest since Aug-2004 and up from 8.1% last week. Some market experts beleive inflation here can reach as high as 9.5%! The poor common man pays for the ministers' and his associates' luxury and ignorance. What a shame!

The longer term prospects for the supply of agricultural products are presumably the most critical factors. As supply response takes time to evolve and, thus, it seems unlikely, that it would match rising global demand. The G8 countries are obsessed about climate change without getting their backyards clean in the first place. Maybe they can afford to fly and find another planet as alternative for future generations. As a result of all acts put together for growth against all odds, life on planet earth is fast approaching its logical end - sooner or later!
