Many were injured and dead during protests that erupted following the granting of 99acres of land in June'08 to a Hindu religious organization. Kashmir separatist movements was mostly peaceful until the outbreak of an Islamic insurgency in 1989 claiming many thousand lives. Since then may opportunists had used the issue to spread messages of hatred, violence, political rhetoric and intolerance.

There are approximately 180 golf courses in India of which more than 100 are owned by the armed forces. Another 30 to 40 are currently under construction and in the next few years India is expected to add about 10 new courses per year.
